The Majority Caucus in Parliament has resulted in the allegation that Ghana is committed to selling The National Investment Bank (NIB) to the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) as a result of liquidity challenges the NIB is facing of late.

According to the MPs on the ticket of the governing New Patriotic Party the Bank will continue to exist as a separate entity contrary to a claim largely made by the Minority Ranking member of the Finance Committee in Parliament, Issac Adongo at a news conference a few weeks ago which he alleged that, NIB is being handed over to the ADB.

Stating the views of the Majority side of the House at a news conference with The Parliamentary Press Corps in Accra on Wednesday, 25th October, 2023 in responding to the NDC Minority on the alleged possible takeover of the Bank by ADB, The Majority Chief Whip and MP for Nsawam Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh said, the government has no to sell the National Investment Bank.

A few days ago, the ranking member of the finance committee Isaac Adongo cautioned the government against any move to collapse NIB charging the government to capitalize on it given the liquidity challenges.

Mr. Annoh-Dompreh refuted the assertions of the minority but he, however, urged the Finance Minister to make “more funds available for the recapitalization of the bank for it to strive,” he noted that, “What the government should be encouraged and urged to do is to help in the recapitalization but not to run down the bank. So, our colleagues in the Minority should stop this politicization of all matters, especially matters related to the financial sector.”

He also accused the NDC Government for running the NIB down by

He accused the minority of attempting to run down indigenous banks with propaganda and called the public to ignore NDC MPs.
