Private Legal Practitioner, Nii Kpakpo Samoa Addo has revealed that there is a problem with the structure and control of Ghana’s Police Service.

Speaking on FOCUS in an answer to a question on “Dampare Testifies before Ad-Hoc Committee—What Next?” he explained that if there are issues with all that has transpired within the Police Service in Ghana, it means the country has issues.

“Meaning, the conflicts represent a problem with the structure, commands, and control with the Police Service, and this must be remedied.”

“If we have a Senior Outgoing Commissioner of Police who is part of the Police Management Board making serious allegations against the serving Inspector General of Police (IGP), and other lower-level Police Officers making these kinds of complaints, then there is a problem,” he stated.

“It is not to say that, in any of the republic organisations, we do not have conflicts. The Police Service is a unique Institution because of the role it is being assigned under our internal security. We cannot have a situation where we have these murmurings and possible indiscipline because it is a Security Service,” he stated.

Additionally, it is important for the Police Service to provide clear guidelines and training to Officers to ensure they understand and adhere to proper conduct and procedures.
