Chairman of the National Media Commission, NMC, Yaw Boadu Ayeboafo, has asked Ghanaian Journalists to always report abuses and assaults against them to the Commission for redress. He regretted tendencies where Journalists rather fail to lodge formal complaints with the Commission, but rather discuss such issues on other platforms.
Mr. Ayeboafo said this when he led a delegation from the NMC to pay a courtesy call on Management of GBC at Broadcasting House in Accra.
He asked GBC and other state media to have ‘open mind’ in their reportage because the days where the government controlled its content are far over.
The visit by the National Media Commission, NMC to management of the State Broadcaster is part of activities by the Commission to bring its work closer to all constituted bodies. It is also to ensure that persons appointed into the Commission contribute meaningfully to its work at all times.
Chairman of the NMC, Yaw Boadu Ayeboafo, encouraged GBC not to despair at certain comments by the public after watching or listening to their programmes, and continue to deliver quality content to them.
Mr. Ayeboafo advised media practitioners to desist from publishing one-sided stories, especially when attempts to reach the other party proves futile.
The Director General of GBC, Prof. Amin Alhassan, said the Corporation has been embarking on massive restructuring of its brands and flagship programmes.
This, he said, has addressed needs of its ‘publics’ that cut across various demographics.
The delegation later toured some studios of the GBC.
