Studies have shown that the Northern Region alone needs more than six thousand tractors to argument the fleets to enable farmers engage in proper land preparation for farming activities.

The Chairman of the Northern Region Farmers Association, Mohammed Adam Nashiru, in an interview with GBC’s Radio Ghana in Tamale said the tractor deficit is having a great toll on farmers and farming activities in the region.

He said the number of tractors available in the system is not adequate to serve all the farmers.

Others, according to him, have also over stayed their usefulness.

According to Mr Nashiru, government and stakeholders should endeavor to address this challenge by bringing in more tractors from India and Czech Republic to boost the agricultural mechanization centers.

He said this will enable most farmers have access to the tractors by purchasing them while those who cannot afford to buy the tractors, can afford their services.

Mr. Nashiru stressed this move will go a long way to propel the achievement of the Planting for Food and Jobs flagship programme.
