Residents of Dalun in the Kumbungu District of the Northern region have petitioned President Akufo Addo to intervene and get the Contractor working on the Bontanga-Dalun -Nawuni road completed. The 10-kilometer road was awarded on contract in 2016, but residents say the Contractor abandoned the project, resurfaced shortly before a the 2020 elections and has since abandoned the project for the second time.

Hundreds of residents of Dalun and surrounding communities took to the street Monday, November 22, 2021 to register their displeasure over the poor state of the road.

In a petition to the President, through the Kumbungu District Assembly, the residents said the state of the road is affecting socio-economic activities in the area.

Chairman of the Dakun Youth Association, Mahama Safianu who addressed the media said the youth will block access to the road if the Contractor fails to return to site in three weeks.

“The dust emanating from the excessive use of the road by tipper tucks and other vehicles is the cause of air pollution that leaves many people ill with respiratory diseases “, he noted.

Dalun and Nawuni are home to the treatment plant and water intake source for the Ghana Water Company Ltd, which supplies water to the Tamale Metropolis and Sagnerigu Municipality. The community is also noted for the production of vegetables especially in the dry season.
