The Director General of the National Service Authority (NSA), Felix Gyamfi, has stated that no staff of the Authority will be shielded if ongoing investigations into the ghost names scandal find any of the staff culpable.

Addressing the media in Accra, Mr Gyamfi alleged that the scandal started from the top echelons of the authority, and the then Director General and his deputies cannot say they are not aware.

He said with the conclusion of the ongoing investigations, whoever is involved will be made to face the law.

The Director General said it was sad that people who were entrusted with the mandate to lead could perpetuate such crime on the state.

Government recently uncovered a significant discrepancy in the National Service payroll, revealing 81,885 suspected ghost names.

The figure represents the difference between the actual number of active personnel and the payroll data submitted by the previous management of the National Service Authority (NSA).

According to the latest findings, there are currently 98,145 active service personnel, a stark contrast to the 180,030 names presented for allowance payment in 2024.

President Mahama has therefore caused investigations into the scandal.

Mr Gyamfi said as a measure to address some of the challenges, the Director General said with this year’s postings, colleges and institutions whose accreditation has expired will not have their students enrolled for national service.

He said some 20 tertiary institutions have had their accreditations expired and called on them to immediately remedy it with the Ghana Tertiary Education Council. Mr Gyamfi also announced that government has released funds to clear all arrears owed to service personnel from August to January.
