The National Service Scheme (NSS), is exploring opportunities to deepen its relationship with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) for their mutual benefits in the ensuing years.

One major area under consideration under this proposed partnership will be a Memorandum of Understanding covering fields such as Agricultural Engineering, Sports Science, Business and Accounting.

The Executive Director of the NSS, Osei Assibey Antwi, advanced this suggestion during his courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor of the KNUST in Kumasi.

The Executive Director also proposed, for the consideration of KNUST, another collaboration in the areas of research and data analysis for the two organisations to better appreciate the evolving demands of industry and various market players to properly inform training and deployment of NSS personnel at all times while at the same time addressing the concern of industry-personnel skill mismatch.

Mr. Assibey Antwi used the opportunity to announce that the scheme plans to establish a dedicated on campus office of the NSS to address logistical challenges NSS personnel and staff go through, particularly traveling from campus to the Municipal or regional secretariat of the scheme to submit their monthly Evaluation Forms.

The proposed on Campus NSS Office, the Executive Director, also emphasised that it will facilitate the processing and payment of the monthly allowance to personnel.

The Ashanti Regional NSS Director, Prince Kankam Boadu, who accompanied the Executive Director, commended KNUST for its exemplary organisation of a recent orientation program for National Service Personnel, which saw a significant turnout at the university.

The Vice Chancellor of KNUST, Professor Mrs. Rita Dickson, welcomed the NSS’ proposals for their mutual interest. She reaffirmed KNUST’s commitment to supporting the NSS in enhancing their systems and providing essential support to graduates.

Also present at the meeting was the Registrar of the KNUST, Andrew Akwasi Boateng.
