Edward Obeng-Kenzo takes over as Acting CEO of VRA

Edward Ekow Obeng-Kenzo has been appointed as the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Volta River Authority (VRA), taking over from Emmanuel Antwi Darkwa. The official handover ceremony occurred on Wednesday, February 5, 2025.

The appointment of Obeng-Kenzo was made under government directive, pending the reconstitution of the VRA board.

Obeng-Kenzo is to lead the organisation in an acting capacity until the new board makes a formal decision. He is also expected to maintain Ghana’s energy security while driving innovation and sustainability.

Obeng-Kenzo is a seasoned business executive with 24 years of experience in the power sector.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration (MPA) and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Mechanical Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and is a member of the Ghana Institution of Engineering.

Prior to his appointment, Obeng-Kenzo was the Deputy Chief Executive for Engineering and Operations.

He has also held key positions within the VRA, including Director of Thermal Generation SBU, Plant Manager of the Tema Thermal Power Complex (TTPC), Operations Manager at TTPC, and Project Manager for the Tema Thermal 2 Power Project.

He will oversee critical departments, including Hydro Generation, Thermal Generation, Engineering Services, Technical Services, Environment & Sustainable Development, Commercial Services, Strategic Projects and New Business, and Utility Services, Water Resources, and Renewable Energy.
