One person has been confirmed dead with three others sustaining various degrees of injury following a land dispute between two clans at Mpaha in the Central Gonja district of the Savannah region on Sunday.
The deceased, Iddrisu Fuseini, 48, died at the Mpaha Health Centre with deep cuts on his chest while two of the injured, Ibrahim Yakubu, 37 and Alhassan Abubakari, 42, sustained multiple cuts on their bodies, and are receiving treatment at the same clinic.
The third, Abaka Alhassan, 49, is also on admission receiving medical care at the Family Life Clinic at Kigbirpe.
Confirming the news, the Public Relations Officer of the Savannah Regional Police Command, Owusu Agyekum said yesterday at about 07:30, the Paramount Chief of Debre Traditional area, Debrewura Sulwu called the police to provide security at his palace following a settlement of land dispute between the Losumpe and Kejasa communities.
During the process, both parties became aggrieved which resulted into a physical fight.
As a result, some of them sustained injuries and were rushed to Mpaha health centre and Family Life clinic at Kigbirpe for treatment.
The PRO said a team of military and police personnel were dispatched to support the police at Mpaha to maintain law and order adding that calm has since been restored to the area.
According to him, efforts are being made to convey the dead to the Tamale Teaching hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
