Government’s Stance on Drug Trafficking
During a press briefing at Tema Port, Minister of Health Kwabena Mintah Akandoh reaffirmed the government’s dedication to preventing Ghana from being exploited as a conduit for illicit opioid trafficking.
“While we are committed to promoting trade, we will not permit Ghana to serve as a hub for opioid distribution. The President himself is highly concerned about this issue; he personally contacted me twice before I arrived here, underscoring the urgency and seriousness of the matter,” the minister stated.
Authorities have pledged to strengthen regulations and enhance surveillance measures at the country’s ports to prevent the smuggling of illegal pharmaceuticals.
