The Overlord of Dagbon, Ya Na Abubakari Mahama has pledged his support to the President’s Green Ghana initiative which aims at restoring the country’s lost forest cover.
Speaking at a durbar of stakeholders at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi, the overlord expressed concern about the growing menace of environmental degradation, which is fuelled by indiscriminate felling of trees for charcoal and bushfires.
The Ya Na used the occasion to appeal to stakeholders to consider providing cheaper sources of energy as alternatives to fuelwood and charcoal to prevent further deforestation.
