Some workers of a salt mining company in Accra, called Pambros Salt Factory, located along the Weija Junction-Winneba stretch, have hit the streets to protest against what they a ploy by some traditional authorities to undermine their work.

They alleged that there are attempts being made by some traditional authorities to allocate portions of the salt mining area to a Chinese company.

Clouded in red and black attire, with red armbands the workers chanted war songs and slogans to voiced out their strongest opposition to such clandestine move,

According to them, allowing the authorities to sell portions of the mining area would lead to massive job losses.

It is estimated that over 1,000 workers of the salt mining company may lose their jobs if the salt mining area is handed over to the Chinese company.

Several aggrieved workers who spoke to journalists expressed deep anxiety about the potential negative consequences that would impact on their livelihoods state authorities sit unconcerned.

“We notice that the Chinese people started encroaching on our land. They are destroying our land. We won’t agree since we don’t have anywhere going. Pambros produces salt and same as Sege, so we are contributing our quota.

We even learnt that the Jubilee House spends a lot on salt. So if our jobs are destroyed how can we support the country as local producers? President Akufo Addo must act on this. They have even employed the services of land guard and it is scary.” A worker said.

Another person added, “We must not sit as a country and watch as ordinary Ghanaians suffer. It is unfair to give our land to the Chinese.”

We will want to use this medium to beg the traditional authority to ensure justice is served in this matter.

We cannot allow anyone to came and take over our land without our knowledge.

To this end we are calling on the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to act on the matter with all the urgency it requires because we need an immediate state intervention to prevent this clandestine takeover.
