Parents in Zongo communities have been advised to stop discriminating against their daughters, especially in the area of education, because girls like their male counterparts, are endowed with virtually the same potential and should, therefore, be given equal opportunities also to climb the educational ladder.
Speaking at a programme organized to encourage girls in Zongo communities to discover themselves to achieve their full potentials, the Minister for Inner cities and Zongo Development, Dr. Mustapha Hamid said, his ministry is working hard to ensure that Zongo girls have the opportunity to be educated.
The programme was aimed at encouraging Zongo girls to discover themselves and not to allow anyone to force them into fields that are not in their interest.
It was also to make the children realize their potential and develop their skills aside from the classroom teaching and learning. This is to help them to discover themselves in the entrepreneurial world at an early stage.
The Minister for Inner Cities and Zongo Development, Dr. Mustapha Hamid said his ministry is rolling out a mentorship programme to showcase to parents the success stories of prominent Muslim women who have defied the odds.
A senior lecturer at the Religious Department of the University of Ghana, Dr. Rabiatu Armah charged parents to help their daughters to identify their area of specialization.
The project ambassador, Humu Gaaje of Metro TV gave the assurance that a similar programme will be organized for parents to understand the importance of allowing their children to develop their potential.
