Parliament has passed the 2025 Appropriation Bill, granting the government authorization to spend GHC293 billion from the Consolidated Fund and other public funds for the 2025 financial year under paragraph (a) clause (2) of article 179 of the 1992 constitution.
The bill outlines the government’s total estimated expenditure for the year, including GHC68 billion earmarked for wages and salaries and GHC13 billion allocated for the payment of arrears.
Announcing the approval of the bill, First Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor declared:
“Hon. Members, the Appropriation 2025 is now read the third time and accordingly passed.”
With this passage, the government now has the legal backing to implement its budgetary plans for the upcoming year. The approval sets the stage for funding key sectors, including education, health, infrastructure, and social services.
