The Minority in Parliament has accused the Government of hiding the facts from the public on the energy situation in the country as they say, ‘dumsor’ is back, and Ghanaians need to know and plan accordingly.
The Minority said they have monitored the power situation for the past month, and it appears “based on the information available to us that the power sector is collapsing”.
“Since 2nd February, 2024 there has been persistent and consistent load shedding by power generation companies.”
Speaking at the news conference in Parliament, the Spokesperson on Energy and Mines, John Jinapor, indicated, “indeed the load shedding is worse by the day, and the very moment the President was delivering a message on the state of the nation and boasting, at that very moment, utility companies were shedding load.”
He said, “our checks have indicated that some of the thermal plants are down; Tako and Tiko are down, and so they are not generating enough power, but more importantly, because of financial constraints government has not been able to procure adequately to fire some of the plants, culminating into the load shedding.”
Meanwhile, the entire Parliament went off by about 2 minutes at the time MPs were debating the State of the Nation Address presented by the President few days ago.
This light out has confirmed the prediction by the Minority that, there will be load shedding at 12 p.m., and it has come to pass.
