The Parliamentary Service of Ghana has maintained that the decision by the Lands and Natural Resources Ministry to investigate the attempts made to sell the official residence of the Speaker of Parliament is highly welcomed.

During a Parliamentary Breakfast meeting on Monday, November 20, 2023, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin disclosed an attempt to sell off his official residence to a private developer.

In a response to the claims by the Speaker, the Lands Commission, Lands and Natural Resources Ministry debunked that the residence was almost sold to a private developer and promised an investigation into the matter.

In a response contained in a press statement signed by the Director of Media Relations of Parliament, David Sebastien Damoah, the Parliamentary Service explained that the potential buyer visited the Lands Commission to complete the due process in buying off the property and realized the status of the property.

The service also described the reactions by the Lands Commission, Lands and Natural Resources Ministry and Works and Housing Ministry on the subject matter as one that veered off the issue being raised.

It said a visit to the residence of the Speaker will reveal that all properties around the residence have been sold to private developers leaving that of the Speaker looking like an Island.
