The Ghana Geological Survey Authority, says an earth tremor occurred on Friday morning in parts of the Greater Accra Region.

The tremor had a magnitude of two-point-eight on the Richter scale. A statement signed by the Acting Director General of the Authority, Isaac Mwinbelle, said the epicenter was located at a one-point-five kilometer offshore near James Town in Accra, and the recorded magnitude is indicative of the extent of the tremor.

It said the tremor is a minor one and is not expected to cause damage.

The statement further said the tremor was slightly felt in High Street, Ridge and some other parts of Accra Central. It added that these natural occurrences are therefore difficult to predict as the Authority is committed to monitoring these events and inform the public appropriately to ensure public safety and minimize risk.

The Authority says it is currently undertaking education and public sensitization as well as a response during earth tremors. The statement, therefore, urged the public to remain calm and go about their normal activities.
