A boat is reported to have caught fire on the Volta Lake at Yeji Makango. The flaming boat was fully packed with passengers, mainly market women who were on route to nearby island village to ply their goods.

The boat caught fire in the middle of the lake while transporting the passengers and their goods.

It took SOS calls for other boats to quickly go to the rescue of stranded passengers.

Reports say, some of the passengers had dived into the lake upon seeing fire. The rescue boat managed to save all passengers and food items in time.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
