Pastor backs call to lift ban on church activities

The Sunyani Area Head of the Apostolic Church Ghana, Pastor Peter Yorke Otoo, has backed the call for lifting the ban on gatherings by religious organisations amidst the Covid-19 pandemic in the Country.

According to him, the Apostolic Church is ready to implement measures to protect worshippers and educate them effectively to curb the spread of Corvid-19. Pastor Yorke Otoo said this in an interview with GBC’s Radio Ghana as the National Women’s Movement of the church donated a package of Veronica buckets, face masks and other consumables to the female Section of the Sunyani Central Prisons in the Bono region.

As Corvid-19 continues to ravage the world, Ghana is ramping up measures to stem the spread of the novel virus. Currently Ghana’s case count for Covid-19 stands at 4,700 including the Bono region’s first case.

The latest move is the Provision of Sanitary items to the Sunyani Female Prisons by the National Women’s Movement of the Apostolic Church Ghana.

The package include of Veronica Buckets, hand sanitisers, reams of tissue paper, sanitary pads and detergents.

The Second in Command of the Sunyani female Prisons, DSP Mary Asante Sarfo was on hand to take delivery of the items for the Corvid-19 fight.

In an interview with Radio Ghana, the National Women’s Leader of Apostolic Church Ghana, Deaconess Theodora Owusu Asubonteng said: “as a church, they are mandated to help with the fight against Covid-19.” She further noted that as mothers they have a duty to educate especially market women and children on the safety protocols of Covid-19.

On calls on government to lift the ban on Church gatherings, the Sunyani Area Head of the Apostolic Church, Pastor Peter Yorke Otoo, backed the call to lift the ban.

On achieving social distancing in the church after the ban is lifted, a Pastor of the church, Daniel Owusu said, church services in smaller units and seating arrangements guided by social distancing are some of the options the Apostolic church is looking at.

Earlier, receiving the items, DSP Mary Asnate Sarfo called on other churches, institutions and NGOs to emulate the Women’s Movement of Apostolic church by donating to Sunyani Central the Prisons to help fight Covid-19.
