The National Peace Council, NPC, will on the 15th of next month (October) launch a Peace Fund. The Council believes the Fund has become necessary due to limited resources and inadequate budgetary allocation to support its activities.
The National Peace Fund is to prevent, manage, and resolve conflict and to build sustainable peace.
Individuals and Corporate institutions are therefore encouraged to support the Council to maintain the prevailing peace in the country.
This was made known at the opening of a three-day capacity training workshop for staff and members of the Northern Regional Peace Council in Tamale.
The National Peace Council Act 2011 (Act 818), gives room for the establishment of a Peace Fund, but this has not been realized after a decade of the passage of the Act, and 15 years of the existence of the Council.
The NPC is currently unable to establish secretariats across the country because of inadequate funding.
The Purpose and Principles of the Peace Fund states that contributions made into the Fund will be used to finance activities within a framework of priorities developed in consultation with the government of Ghana and stakeholders.
