Petroleum Tanker Operators are confident the new remuneration framework, developed through collaboration with the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Association of Oil Marketing Companies (AOMCs), and other industry stakeholders, will effectively resolve their longstanding compensation issues with their employers and prevent future strikes.

Following extensive deliberations with the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), the Association of Oil Marketing Companies and Tanker owners, the Petroleum Tanker Operators are hopeful that the new measures will prevent future industrial action.

The operators recently went on strike to protest what they termed inadequate compensation for their work.

The new framework, spearheaded by the NPA, addresses their key grievances, including medical benefits, safety measures, road trip allowances, and insurance for operators.

The framework also aims to strengthen the employer-employee relationship, ensuring a more stable and fair working environment.

The operators’ confidence is based on the inclusive nature of the framework’s development, with all industry stakeholders participating in the agreement.

After a fruitful deliberation with industry stakeholders in Accra, the Petroleum Tanker Operators engaged the media.

The Deputy General Secretary of the General Transport, Petroleum and Chemical Workers’ Union Francis Sallah, said, “the framework has been done, there were issues regarding some other aspects of the Framework that needed to be cleared for all parties to ensure that we smoothly kick off their proper remuneration. We’ve gone through the document, parties contributed significantly both from the AOMCs, Tanker Operators Unions, and the Unions.”

Mr. Sallah gave assurance that the long-term remuneration issues affecting the Tanker Operators would be a thing of the past. “This will be the end of the age long struggle that we’ve had in the past years. We are determined to ensure that this works.”

Tanker Operators Unions lauded the NPA for their tremendous effort in ensuring that their grievances are resolved.

The Union said members will receive the new remuneration packages by the end of June, as stipulated in the new framework.
