Chief Executive of the Ghana Library Authority, Hayford Siaw, has underscored the importance of physical libraries to increasing the literacy of the Ghanaian populace.
He noted that at this time where the literacy rate of Ghanaians is below the global standards, investing in libraries is key to developing and nurturing the intellect of citizens.
Mr. Siaw therefore renewed calls for investment in the sector as practiced in developed countries.
Speaking in an interview with GBC News in Accra, he stated that a lot of progress has been made to increase the number of public libraries across the country which have been resourced. However, there is more room for improvement.
Mr. Siaw highlighted some successes chalked up by the Authority, which includes technological innovation in library practice.
