The Wa Branch of the Pentecost International Worship Centre (PIWC) has held a special service to appreciate the contribution of men towards building of the church in resemblance of Christ.
Speaking on the theme: “The role of the man in possessing the nation”, the Secretary for the Wa Area of the Church Of Pentecost (COP), Pastor Samuel Yankey encouraged men to live lives worthy of emulation.
He said as the head of the family, men must ensure that the material and spiritual needs of the family are met.
Father’s Day is celebrated each year to honour fathers and celebrate fatherhood, paternal bonds and the influence of fathers on the wellbeing of society.
A week-long celebration filled with activities was undertaken by the Wa Branch of the Pentecost International Worship Centre (PIWC).
The Climax of the celebration was characterized by drumming and dancing as well as a drama that highlighted the importance of good parenting from fathers to the growth of the society.
The Secretary for the Wa Area of the COP, Pastor Samuel Yankey stressed that being born male does not make one a man.
He said being a man is based on one’s ability to perform duties and responsibilities expected.
“A man has been given a privileged role in the Bible, but we need to establish a few things before we jump on to call ourselves men. Being born a male does not make you a man. To be called a man goes beyond being a male, it comes with extra responsibilities and you have to demonstrate beyond any reasonable doubt that you can fulfill them [the responsibilities] and have to get to a place that we can call you a man,” he explained.
Pastor Yankey was emphatic that the Bible does not support the maltreatment of women saying “there are some people; their success in life is because of the kind of women they got married to. When they [women] come into our lives [men], they are a blessing.”
He said as women are a blessing to men, they must be treated with the love and care they deserve.
He said the Bible demands that both men and women submit to each other in their marriage, but more is expected from men, as the Word of God and the Church is built on the shoulders of men.
The Secretary for the Wa Area of the COP was however, unhappy that some individuals or certain movements have had different interpretations for the Bible with regard to the structure of the family.
He said any attempt to alter the teachings of the Bible means going directly against the Word of God.
Pastor Samuel Yankey used the opportunity to congratulate men in the church and encouraged them to do more to help the church to achieve its five (5) year plan of “Possessing the Nations.”
