The Police Administration has created a new administrative region, known as Central East Region.

It was carved out of the Central Regional Command.

The last time an administrative police region was created was 55 years ago when the Tema Police Region was carved out of the Greater Accra Region.

Acting Director-General of the Police Public Affairs Directorate ACP, Kwesi Ofori, in an exclusive interview with the Daily Graphic, said the Acting IGP, Dr. George Dampare, has appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police, Kwadwo Otchere Boapeah, as the new Central East Regional Police Commander.

His Deputy is ACP Oduro Amaning, with Chief Superintendent Theophilus Hlomanu, going to head the Operations Unit of the new command.

The new police administrative region covers Kasoa and Okyereko, which were under the then Kasoa and Dominase Police districts, and will now constitute two police divisional commands and 10 police district commands.

The police region brings the total number of police administrative regions across the country to 18, with 16 of them covering the 16 political administrative regions.

ACP Kwesi Ofori said the present Police Administration’s expansionist programme is to bring policing services closer to the communities.
