The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into a shooting incident at Adventist Senior High School in Kumasi, which occurred on Friday, April 4, 2025. Preliminary reports indicate that a 16-year-old second-year student brought a locally manufactured pistol loaded with BB ammunition to school. Authorities confirmed the firearm accidentally discharged during an attempt by the student to show it to a classmate, resulting in another student being injured.

The injured student was treated at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and is currently in stable condition. Police have arrested the juvenile suspect and recovered the empty cartridge as evidence. During questioning, the suspect disclosed that he had taken the weapon from his father’s bedroom without permission.

Investigators are now working to locate and apprehend the suspect’s father, who is believed to have ownership of the firearm, to further assist with inquiries. The case underscores ongoing concerns about firearm accessibility and safety in educational environments.
