Police Service has launched communication strategy- Prez Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says the Ghana Police Service has launched a new communication and education strategy that spells out exactly how the service must conduct themselves and engage in communication with the citizens of Ghana.

Speaking at the just ended 62nd Independence Day Anniversary Celebration which took place at Tamale Today, March  6, 2019, President Akufo-Addo said this will help to check the actions of the police and how they must relate and communicate with all Ghanaians.

President Akufo-Addo also mentioned that the Police Service is moving on to modernize its own rules and regulations which will hold them to attain their vision to be a world- class service, capable of delivering planned, protective and peaceful services to the standards of international best practices in a democracy.

He said a credible and professional service is needed to have a peaceful and united society. He added that there cannot be a successful police service without the corporation of the population. He stated “the corporation starts by the public giving respect to the police and encouraging them to earn the trust of the people by serving the public with dedication”.

In addition, the President congratulated the Police Service for their hard work and readiness to put their lives on the line for the entire nation and urged them to continue to be professional at all times. He said our police serve Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia and other parts and serve with distinction.

He said currently, the Ghana Police Officers is offering peace keeping duties at Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia and the Central wherever they go, they serve with distinction.

He commended Chief Superintendent Phyllis Osei for being the first female Ghanaian to win the UN Female Officer Police Award, 2018.

He said our police have served in other international countries in cases of war and helped to stabilize peace in countries which include: Liberia, Sierra Leone and Cote D’Ivoire.

He also mentioned that for the first time since the colonial era, the police service instructions that govern every aspect of internal professional behaviour has been wholly revised in writing, from the code of ethical conduct, administrative rules, welfare, recruitment and training, use of fire arms and new service instructions for every rank through to the authority of the Inspector General of Police, IGP in every aspect of their work. He said the police must police themselves first.

Ghana today marked its 62nd National Independence Day March Past in Tamale.

The President of Niger, Mahamadou Issoufou was the Special Guest of Honour for the event.

The occasion was graced by some dignitaries such as: Vice President Mahamadu Bawumia and the Second Lady, Mrs. Sambira Bawumia, the speaker of Parliament, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, Former President Jerry John Rawlings and his wife, Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, government officials, the newly sworn in overlord of Dagbon, Ya Na Abukari Mahama and the people of Tamale and Ghanaians acoss the country.
