Director- General of the Police Public Affairs Directorate, ACP David Eklu has welcomed the directive by the Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery to arm Personnel of the Motor Traffic and Transport Division (MTTD).
Speaking on GBC’s Current Affairs Programme, “Focus”, ACP Eklu said the Police Administration is currently looking at the modalities to determine the appropriate weapons to be used.
The Executive Director of the Bureau of Public Safety, Nana Yaw Akwada said before arming the Police, the Service must ensure that Standard Operating Procedures are followed as well as improving the soft skills of the Police personnel.
A Personal Assistant to the Minister for the Interior, Alphonse Naab said the directive to arm the personnel of the MTTD has become necessary due to the complex nature of crime in recent times.
A Security Analyst, Adam Bonaa said to improve on professional policing in the country, the training regime for police officers must be reviewed.
