Post-Harvest Fisheries Project: A new era of collaboration between Ghana and South Korea

The Director General of the Korea Maritime Institute has paid a courtesy visit to Ghana’s Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Emelia Arthur, to enhance bilateral relations between South Korea and Ghana, particularly in the fisheries sector.

The meeting focused on the ongoing post-harvest fisheries project, a collaborative effort involving the Korea Maritime Institute, the Fisheries Commission, and the Ministry.

This initiative aims to improve the post-harvest sector, with particular emphasis on the Tema Fisheries Harbor.

During the discussions, the Director General expressed gratitude for the support from the Fisheries Commission in executing the project.

He highlighted the commitment of the Korea Maritime Institute to support Ghana’s fisheries infrastructure, specifically through the renovation and construction of modern fish-smoking facilities in Tema.

Plans are also in place to extend similar improvements to other regions across Ghana in the future.

Ghana’s Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister, Madam Emelia Arthur, welcomed this initiative, emphasizing its potential long-term benefits for the fisheries sector. She underscored the importance of monitoring progress and supported expanding efforts beyond Tema.

Additionally, she called upon the Institute to contribute its expertise towards establishing a Blue Economy Commission, which would further enhance sustainable management of marine resources in Ghana.
