Presidency hosts Muslim faithfuls to IFTAR

The Presidency on Friday May 24, hosted some Muslim faithful to break their fast known as IFTAR at the Jubilee house.

This is the third time a public breaking of the fast during the Ramadan period has been held at the Jubilee House.

President Akufo-Addo expressed the delight about the peaceful coexistence being enjoyed in the country.

He entreated all to maintain that bond between Christians and Muslims.

He said the month of Ramadan signifies peace, love and unity hence Ghanaians must live in harmony with one another.

IFTAR is an evening meal when Muslims end their daily Ramadan fast.

IFTAR is one of the religious observances of Ramadan and is often done as a community with people gathering to break their fast together.

Traditionally but not mandatory, three dates are eaten to break the fast in emulation of the Islamic Prophet Mohammed who broke his fast in this manner.

Many Muslims believe that feeding someone IFTAR as a form of charity is very rewarding. Quranic recitations preceded the breaking of the fast after which a siren to mark the end of the day’s fast.

The National Chief Imam, Shiek Nuhu Sharubutu led the faithful in prayer and Holy Qur’an recitals.

He said the last ten days of the Ramadan fast is very important.

He asked for Allah’s blessings for the government.

President Akufo-Addo in a short remark called for unity and peace among all divides.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia reiterating the importance of Ramadan urged the faithful to continue to pray and intercede on behalf of government and the country as a whole stressing that the peace and unity between Muslims and Christians cannot be downplayed.

Present at the ceremony  include the First Lady , Rebecca Akufo-Addo, wife of the Vice President, Samira Bawumia and of Staff Akosua Frema Opare among other dignitaries.
