President Akufo-Addo has cut the sod for the construction of the Volta Rail Bridge project at Igoli in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region.
The 330-meter bridge which spans the Volta River’s banks at the Eastern and Volta Regions forms part of the Ministry of Railway Development’s Tema-Mpakadan-Ougadougou Rail project.
The project begun in July last year and is expected to be completed in August next year. President Akufo-Addo who was ending his two-day working tour of the Volta Region enumerated the economic benefits of the project, saying it is the future of the country.
He was hopeful the project will create jobs as well as aid the rapid transportation of agricultural products and natural resources.
The Tema-Mpakadan Railway project is being funded by the Indian EXIM bank.
