President Akufo-Addo says the government is working to ensure Universal coverage and uninterrupted access to efficient, reliable and stable electricity supply across the country. He said his administration will make sure every part of the country has access to electricity as soon as possible. President Akufo-Addo stated this when he inaugurated the Pokuase Electricity Bulk Supply point.

The Pokuase Bulk Supply Point with a capacity of 580 MVA, is the largest BSP in Ghana. The contract was executed at a cost of $ 64.72 million, and it’s part of electricity infrastructure being built by MiDA under the Ghana Power Compact with funds from the U.S government. It is the 5th BSP in Accra. Constructed under the existing 330Kv Aboadze Volta Lome transmission line, the BSP is the first 330Kv in the capital and the most technologically advanced substation in Ghana.

The purpose of the Substation is to improve power supply quality and reliability to the over 350,000 electricity consumers who live in the Pokuase, Nsawam, Achimota, Anyaa, Sowutuom, Kwabenya, Ashongman, Legon, Haatso, Agbogba, Adenta, and Aburi communities. The infrastructure will also help to significantly reduce technical losses in the Ghana Grid Company’s (GRIDCo) transmission system and the ECG electric distribution system, ultimately contributing to improving the financial viability of the Utilities.

President Akufo-Addo said the inauguration is a stark reminder of the dark days of power outages. He was confident that with the inauguration of the new BSP, electricity supply will improve.

Deputy Minister of Energy, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, said negotiations with independent power producers are on course.

The US Ambassador to Ghana, Stephanie Sullivan assured of the US support in the energy.

The contract for the construction of b33kV Sub transmission lines was executed by Best and Compton Engineering Ghana Ltd., while Elecnor SA executed the design- build contract.
