Professor Guy Berger calls for transparency in Ghana’s election

Distinguished Fellow, Ria and Emeritus Professor at Rhodes University,Professor Guy Berger reveals the need for regulating Artificial Intelligence(AI) and data access to ensure election integrity in Ghana.
The renowned scholar during his speech at the one day lecture organized by GBC on Monday October 7, 2024 highlighted the complex relationship between African journalism, big tech, and elections. He laid more emphasis on the need of collaborating modern technology into the practice of our democratic practice to ensure fairness and trust in the system.
According to Professor Berger, governing data access and privacy is key to maintaining transparent and trustworthy electoral processes. He also stressed the need for regional support, copyright regulation, and consumer protection to enforce transparency.

The calls for transparency during the event held at the studios of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation by panelists and speakers intensified.The emphasis on transparency and regulation highlights the media’s responsibility to provide accurate and unbiased information during the elections. As misinformation spreads rapidly, the role of regulatory bodies becomes increasingly vital in ensuring that media practices align with democratic values.
