A claim by State Prosecutors that thirteen alleged Democracy Hub protestors are confined in a separate cell and fed PAPAYE with bottled water generated heated arguments at the Circuit Court in Accra.
State Attorney Nana Akosua Kusi made the claim in responding to a bail application by Lawyers for the thirteen accused persons and was confirmed by Head of Legal for CID Superintendent Sylvester Asare, who said he personally supervised the feeding of the accused persons.
This did not go well with both the accused persons and their lawyers, who promptly refuted the
state’s assertion of providing a conducive and nourishing environment for the alleged protestors.
The defence further lamented the poor condition of the accused persons, saying that they have been denied food and water.
They cited an instance where the police failed to promptly attend to one of the accused persons, Felicity Nelson, during an asthma attack. The defense lawyer informed the Court that the Police could not afford an inhaler for the accused.
The Lawyers also highlighted the poor sleeping conditions of the accused persons to refute the prosecution’s claim of placing them in separate cells.
