Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority, the  Rev. Amishadai Owusu Amoah says the positive impact of  Government’s digitalization drive has resulted in the collection of Rent Taxes which hitherto were in arrears.

Appearing before the Public Accounts Committee, Rev. Owusu Amoah said the GRA collected 152 million cedis in 2022 as against 32 million in 2021.

This margin is about five hundred percent. He said that though several property owners have converted their homes from rented to owner-occupied, the digital platform known as BL REP is able to identify such owners for them to pay the appropriate taxes.

Responding to MP for Ningo Prampram, Sam George’s question on outstanding tax liabilities of 14 companies in the Ashanti Region, Rev. Owusu Amoah said One-point-one million cedis has been recovered from the outstanding Two-point-two million cedis. He said the GRA is working to prosecute the defaulting company to retrieve the outstanding debt.

On issuance of Tax Clearance Certificates, the MP for Beum,  Kofi Adams noted he does not understand why the authority should issue certificates to companies that owe the state huge amounts of taxes.

Rev Owusu Amoah assured Mr Adams that due processes with regard to the issuance of the certificate is thoroughly adhered to so that the requesting company does to default in its tax obligations. Chairman of the Committee James Klutse Avedzie urged the GRA to ensure that all outstanding debts owed the state by individuals and companies are collected soon.
