Publish load shedding timetable- ACEES to ECG

The Africa Centre for Energy and Environmental Sustainability, ACEES is calling on the ECG to publish the load reduction schedules, following the prolonged power interruption, to help consumers plan accordingly.

A statement signed by the Executive Director, Nurideen Abdulai said the recent power outages in the country, has left consumers in devastating situations.

It said Businesses and households suffer this situation due to the lack of prior notification by stakeholders to consumers, to help them plan around their daily activities.

According to the communication from the Sector Ministry, a total of about 300 to 400 Megawatts of power was lost resulting in frequent outages.

The reasons given by the Deputy Minister for Energy were: ongoing cleaning and maintenance work being carried out by WAPCo, which has stopped the flow of gas supply from the east, to various power plants powered by natural gas among other reasons.

In view of this ACEES is recommending, that the ECG, give advance notice to consumers to help them plan around outages to mitigate impacts, publish timetables especially in situations where intermittent outages last for long, and also sensitize citizens to safeguard electrical installations and equipment in their domains.

ACESS is calling on the PURC to intervene to ensure that consumers are protected as per their mandate.
