PWDs in Akatsi North District receive business support packages

A total of 32 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the Akatsi North District of the Volta Region have received business support packages to enable them engage in income-generating activities.

The gesture which is in fulfilment of the government’s new policy direction on the efficient utilization of the three percent disability component of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), is intended to economically empower disabled persons to fend for themselves.

The items include deep freezers, sewing machines and farm inputs for persons who desired to venture into farming.

During the presentation at Ave Dakpa, the Akatsi North District Chief Executive, Dr Prince Sodoke Amuzu urged the beneficiaries to look beyond their disabilities and commit to the course of economic independence by pursuing their intended businesses with the support items.

He reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to their welfare and urged them to take advantage of the government’s intervention to improve their livelihoods.

Receiving the items, the Chairman of Akatsi North District Disability Management Committee, Godwin Gordon Gomado commended the Assembly for the support and pledged on behalf of the beneficiaries to use the support package for the intended purpose.

In a related development, the Akatsi North District Assembly has presented about one thousand two hundred (1,200) mono desks to the district education office to augment deficit of furniture in schools in the area.

The DCE for Akatsi North, Prince Sodoke Amuzu was hopeful that the additional furniture will boost education delivery in the district.
