An eyewitness narration by the ‘Keep An Eye Team’ of the GTV Breakfast Show after a survey of the aftermath of the explosion at the Anto Aboso Quarry, which claimed five lives on Saturday, September 9, 2023, says it was unbelievable to witness a devastated site.
Darroll Allan Tagoe narrated what the team encountered at the wrecked quarry site.
According to him, the scene appeared calm and untouched, despite the fact that a two-story building had been completely destroyed, cars had been reduced to scraps and debris and reflectors were scattered all around.
The account confirmed that five people were dead and three were reported missing, but it wasn’t clear if they were trapped under the rubble or elsewhere, and it added that the situation would have been different if there were settlements close by.
“If there were settlements nearer to the site, the situation would have been different, and the effects of the incident were felt even far away from the immediate zone,” he said.
Darroll Allan Tagoe further explained that the explosion occurred because ammonia was used to prepare the area and break apart the rock. After the explosion, the remaining rocks were not left at the quarry site but instead transported to a storage facility.
“Ammonia requires a bit of heat to ignite and so chances are, this is my speculation, somebody may have gone there with a certain amount of heat and this caused the explosion,” he added.
He added that the force of the blast was so strong that it completely destroyed the excavators. They observed the disturbing sight of human intestinal contents lying on the ground and body parts scattered throughout the area.
Despite the destruction, some people still visited the site to steal scraps or electrical devices, although there were Police Officers at the site to prevent theft.
