Professor Ransford Gyampo, a respected Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana, has been appointed as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority.
His appointment was made by President John Dramani Mahama, replacing Kwesi Baffour Sarpong, who was appointed by the previous Akufo-Addo government in December 2024.
Prof. Gyampo is well-known for his expertise in governance and public administration. He is expected to bring his knowledge and experience to improve Ghana’s shipping and logistics sector.
Born on March 31, 1977, in Accra, Prof. Gyampo has built a distinguished career in academia and public policy. He is a Professor of Political Science and the Founding Director of the Centre for European Studies at the University of Ghana. He has taught and researched for 20 years.
He holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Ghana and has studied further at Tufts University in the USA. His research covers governance, leadership, democracy in Africa, youth empowerment, natural resource management, elections, and maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea.
Prof. Gyampo has also been a visiting scholar at the University of South Florida and the University of Bristol.
Before his role at the university, he worked for 14 years at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA-Ghana), where he rose from Research Assistant to Senior Research Fellow. He led important governance research projects and influenced national policies through his work.
With his leadership, the Ghana Shippers Authority is expected to benefit from his experience in governance and policy-making.
