Over the years, Ghanaians have frequently asked and fumed over reasons why the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, GBC, which is the State Broadcaster, does not telecast live, Ghana Premier league matches on any of its channels.
In an exclusive interview with Kafui Dey, the Director General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, Professor Amin Alhassan, explained that the State Broadcaster presented a bid when the Ghana Football Association, GFA, placed an advertisement for telecasters, but the GFA, gave the bid to Chinese franchise, Star Times.
Even though the bid made by GBC, according to the Director General was unarguably the best, GBC was denied the rights to telecast live Ghana Premier League matches. He further stated that, GBC is always ready to show the Ghana Premier League whether for profit or not but the Corporation was denied the rights.
According to Professor Alhassan, GBC can boast of the best and solid sports crew and production in the country unarguably with the highest capacity and reach across the sixteen regions of Ghana.
He expressed his disappointment at the decision of the Ghana Football Association denying the State Broadcaster the rights to telecast all matches of the Ghana Premier League across the length and breadth of the country.
