Search is underway to retrieve bodies of five people who went missing after their canoe capsized on River Offin at New Achiase, a farming community near Nyinahin in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.

Reports indicate that the five victims, all males, were among 9 people who were travelling on a canoe to the adjoining community when the unfortunate incident happened.

Early on, there had been a downpour which had caused the river to overflow its banks.

Some traditionalists have, however, performed rituals on the Offin River for the recovery of the bodies of the missing persons.

Narrating the incident to the media, the Chairman of the Unit Committee, Mr. Daniel Adu expressed concerns over the increasing loss of lives on River Offin due to the use of weak canoes by some operators.
