The Paramount Chief of Bongo, Bon-Naba Baba Salifu Atamale Lemyurum has appealed to the Upper East Regional Minister, Paulina Patience Abayage to intervene in a court case between a prospecting Chinese mining Company and the youth of the area to forestall any confusion.
Bon-Naba indicated that, the company did the feasibility studies and was given the license to prospect, following the government’s ban on illegal mining or galamsey.
He made the appeal during a courtesy call on him at his Palace in Bongo by the Upper East Regional Minister. The Bon-Naba was very happy to receive the Regional Minister at his Palace, saying she is the first Lady ever to be appointed to the high office.
He was therefore thankful to the President Nana Addo for his wisdom. Bon-Naba assured the Minister of his support.
The move by the Minister was aimed at introducing herself to the Paramount chief of the area, ask for support and to announce her plans for the Bongo District and the region at large.
Ms. Abayage indicated that, the social intervention policies being rolled out by the President are inuring to the benefit of the Upper East Region and the Bongo District for that matter.
She revealed that government’s agricultural revolutionary program dubbed Planting for Food and has made it possible for farmers to produce and export cereals to the neighboring countries.
The Minister stated that, government soon will rolled out the rearing for food and jobs saying that, the Upper Region is noted for its guinea fowl production of about 60 percent, the Bongo District will certainly be in Business.
She stated that, the One-District-One-Factory policy, One-District-One-Warehouse and are all geared towards developing the country.
In his response, Bon-Naba indicated that, the Bongo District is privilege to be among the first to enjoy some of the social intervention programmes such as the One-Village-One-Dam policy, that notwithstanding, Bongo District still encounter a lots of challenges.
Bon-Naba mentioned that, the road network in the District is not in a good shape, but expressed gratitude to the President.
He therefore appealed to the Minister to help facilitate the completion of the Bongo-Soe Dua road project.
Bon-Naba advised the people of Bongo to grow low crops in the town to help brighten the District capital.
