The Ghana Association of Social workers (GASOW), is calling on stakeholders to collaborate with its Council, to draft a bill to regulate social work in the country.
Speaking at the Annual General Meeting of GASOW in Accra, the Dean of Academic Affairs at the Kofi Annan International Peace Keeping Center, Prof. Kwaku Osei-Hwedie, said currently, there is no licensed social worker in Ghana, and no institution, has been mandated to issue out licenses to social workers.
The meeting discussed the benefits of professionalisation, opportunities and challenges associated with social work and the way forward.
The Dean of Academic Affairs at the Kofi Annan International Peace Keeping Center, Prof. Kwaku Osei-Hwedie reiterated the need for social workers to be licensed, saying, the regulation will ensure standards and help create mechanisms to discipline social workers who go wayward.
