A Road Safety Analyst, Godfred Akyea Darkwah has welcomed news of the Road Safety Authority’s intention to reintroduce a road towing levy as a means to curb the spate of accidents.

Mr. Akyea Darkwah was however of the view that road towing levies alone cannot help reduce road accidents.

He, therefore, called for on-the-spot fines to be implemented alongside the towing levies. Speaking in an interview with GBC NEWS, Mr Akyea Darkwah said the enforcement of road traffic regulations in the past has not received the necessary political support, hence the reason for the increase in cases of road accidents.

Mr Akyea Darkwa disagreed with the assertion that most road accidents are caused by unmotorable roads. He said it is time the National Road Safety Authority institutes a police unit to aid in enforcement of the Road Safety regulations.
