Relationship coach Rev. Dr. Nana Yaa Prempeh has identified anger as the primary challenge in marriages, describing it as a “demon” that requires effective management.
In an interview on GTV breakfast show on 12th January, 2024, she highlighted the right of everyone, including God, to feel anger but emphasized the importance of handling it constructively.
Addressing potential scenarios, she questioned whether individuals unleash their anger at home due to workplace frustrations.
Advocating for anger management skills, Dr. Prempeh stressed the significance of the initial reaction during moments of anger, particularly for couples. She suggested the use of love signs, such as playing the fool, to bring about peace in the home, emphasizing that doing so does not diminish one’s worth.
Offering guidance for couples, she advised that if one partner is upset, the other should remain calm and communicate calmly to avoid exacerbating the situation.
Dr. Prempeh urged couples struggling with emotional intelligence to be patient and attentive to their partners’ needs. She emphasized the importance of understanding each other in relationships, emphasizing that emotional intelligence should not be carried from one relationship to another due to differing personalities.
Highlighting societal perceptions, she pointed out that men often view the physical expression of emotions as a sign of weakness. Encouraging men to express their emotions openly, she noted that suppressing feelings could lead to unfulfilled needs.
In terms of approaching romantic relationships, Dr. Prempeh encouraged men to persist in expressing their feelings, even if faced with initial rejection.
She stressed the significance of respect in marital conflicts, advising against hasty reactions and screaming, asserting that every man deserves respect.
Concluding her insights on conflict resolution, Dr. Prempeh advised couples not to react quickly to problems but rather to calmly address them. Emphasizing the importance of respect, she highlighted that treating a man with respect is fundamental to a harmonious relationship.
