Renewed clashes at Yong Dakpemyili in the Tamale metropolis has left one person dead and several others injured.

GBC news sources in the community say some houses have also been torched following Saturday dawn’s shooting.

Saturday’s shooting comes less than 48 hours after sporadic gunshots on Thursday night left several persons injured.

Some residents are said to have fled the community as a result of the fighting.  The Assemblyman for Yong Dakpemyili, Abdul Wahab Dawuda, has confirmed that, police personnel have arrived in the community to restore calm, though no arrests have been made.

Yong Dakpemyili, a periurban community in the Tamale metropolis has suffered recurrent clashes as supporters of two brothers, fight over a traditional title in the community.

Both brothers are said to have received the symbol of authority, which gives them the right to lead the community as a “Tendana”, or the chief priest of the community.

The conflict has stalled development in the community, which was fast expanding into the main Northern Regional capital.
