In a significant legal victory, Reuben Hadzide (NO. 20 L 012909) has won his defamation lawsuit against Nana Owusu Bempah, resulting in a $15,000 settlement.

The lawsuit, filed in 2021, alleged that Hadzide was falsely accused of misusing the Church of the Ghanaian Community’s 501(c)(3) status for personal gain, among other defamatory claims. After nearly three years of legal battles, the court has ruled in favour of Hadzide, acknowledging the harm caused by Bempah’s actions.

SETTLEMENT TERMS

The settlement includes:
– Acknowledgment and apology from Nana Owusu Bempah for his conduct
– Agreement not to repeat similar offenses against Reuben Hadzide
– Admission of innocence, confirming that Hadzide did not steal from the Church
– Financial settlement of $15,000, with:
    – Initial payment of $1,000
    – Remaining balance of $14,000 to be paid in monthly installments of $500, starting August 24, 2024, and due on the fifth of every month
– Dismissal of the case with prejudice, retaining court jurisdiction to enforce settlement terms

Mr Hadzide’s victory serves as a testament to his commitment to clearing his name and seeking justice. The Ghanaian community in Chicago can now move forward, knowing that truth and accountability have prevailed.
