Journalists in the Upper East Region have been told to take the words of the executive seriously whenever they make promises.
The Minister for Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso Boakye, assured the people of the Upper East Region that work would soon resume on the Bolgatanga-Bawku-Pulmakom road. Without giving any timelines, Mr. Boakye told the media that the road project is so dear to the Akufo-Addo government.
“This road project is one of the important projects for this government in the Upper East Region. The project is in two phases. Phase one has been substantially completed, and phase two is ongoing, which involves the construction of three important bridges along the corridor and dualisation of 1.4 kilometres through the main towns of Bolgatanga,” Mr. Boakye emphasised.
Construction works on the 117.94 kilometres Bolgatanga-Bawku-Pulmakom road project started in 2016. But the Brazilian contractor working on the project, Queiroz Galvao, packed out of the site in February 2023, bringing work to a standstill. The Roads and Highways Minister, during an inspection tour of road infrastructure in the region, was confident that the Bolga-Bawku-Pulmakom road and the Chuchuliga-Sandema-Fumbisi road will be completed soon for use.
But the media wanted to know how soon the contractor would be returning to continue work on the project. In the company of some Municipal and District Chief Executives in the Upper East Region, Mr. Asenso Boakye, with confidence, told the media that:
“Very soon. I mean, he is remobilizing to site and when the minister says as soon as possible, you should take it seriously. As soon as possible!” Mr. Asenso Boakye said while smiling off.
