An Accra Circuit Court presided over by Evelyn Asamoah, has convicted two laborers for conspiracy to commit robbery, attempts to commit robbery and robbery. The Court sentenced each of the convicts, Sunday Bawa and Musah Ayuba to 25 years in prison.

According to the facts presented in Court, the Complainant is George Obeng, a taxi driver and resident of Kasoa Liberia Camp, whilst the convicts reside at Teshie Tebibiano in Accra.

On November 22, 2020 at about 1.00 am the accused persons chartered a taxi cab, which was driven by the complainant from Circle to Teshie. On reaching a spot near the Lekma Hospital at Teshie, the convicts told the driver they had reached their destination and asked to alight. Sunday Bawa was seated at the back and Musah Ayuba, was at the front seat. Bawa pretended he was paying for the fare so the driver turned to take the money from him but instead smeared powdered pepper on his face while Musah forcefully took the key to the taxi cab and got down. The driver managed to get hold of Bawa and struggled with him.

During the ensuing struggle, the driver bit Bawa’s right middle finger. The convicts sensing danger bolted with the ignition key and cash of GHC350 leaving behind a mobile phone in the taxi. Bawa was arrested during investigations and he led the Police to arrest Musah from his hideout.

He also led the Police to retrieve the key to the taxi from his room. The convicts admitted the offence, in their caution statement and also confessed to being involved in another car theft.
