The developer of the Saglemi Affordable Housing Project, Quarm LMI Consortium, has assured the public that the recent fire outbreak at the project site did not affect any housing units or important documents.
The fire, which occurred during site-clearing activities, started when labourers set fire to weeds. Unfortunately, the flames spread to nearby warehouses containing expired building materials.
During a site tour with the Minister of Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, on Wednesday, December 26, Managing Director Kofi Adaboh Ofori Amanfo explained:
“Around 1 o’clock yesterday, labourers working on site set a small fire to clear weeds. However, they couldn’t control it, and the fire spread to an external warehouse. Thankfully, firefighters from Sege arrived to contain the situation. No housing units were affected, and work inside the houses hasn’t even started yet.”
Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah urged the consortium to adhere to building codes, safety standards, and the agreed timelines for project completion.
“In line with building regulations and the site layout, ensure strict compliance. Also, stick to the timelines you’ve provided. The fire department will update us on what was destroyed in the warehouse. However, it’s reassuring to know the housing units remain untouched,” he said.
The Saglemi Housing Project, which has faced multiple delays over the years, is set for redevelopment, and authorities remain optimistic about its timely completion.
