Months ago, President Akufo-Addo, commissioned the Electrochem Salt Mining Company in Ada to explore and extract salt from the Ada Songhor Lagoon. The Company as positioned was to give employment to the youth within the Ada Traditional Area among other developmental benefits.

Weeks after the commissioning, news broke out of a clash between a group of irate youth against workers of the Electrochem Salt Mining Group, owned by Dr. Daniel McKorley of the McDan Group of Companies. The clash which allegedly led to some youth sustaining injuries and one losing his life, has since slowed down work process on the 15 year leased a 41,000 acreage.

Based on this development, Solar Africa, a Civil Society Organization, has called for cool heads to prevail for the youth of Ada to cooperate with the chiefs to ensure progressive development in the Ada area.

A press statement signed by the Founder and Executive Chairman of Solar Africa, Kenteman Nii Laryea Sowah said, the acquisition of the site for salt mining will not only bring development of the natural resources which have been politicized for decades but will also afford give employment to over 4,000 youth.

The statement said, investment in natural resource exploration is quite expensive and by that local businessmen and women deserve encouragement rather than “pull him down” attitude.

The Statement said Ghana needs peace and harmony to help develop its human and natural resources into full utilization.

The group further called on all religious organizations, chieftaincy secretariat, all human rights and civil society organizations, the security agencies to also voice their indignation against reactionary forces working against the progress of Ada Traditional Area.

Solar Africa said the Ada Songhor Lagoon was the property of the state and it behooves on the political authorities including the Member of Parliament and the Municipal Chief Executive as well as the media to “offer maximum support to the Electrochem Gh. to help transform the lives of the people in Ada and the Satellite Communities.”
